JoJo

"Genteel, almost rigorously refined, JoJo hardly looks like the site of a revolution. Yet in this glorified tearoom, chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten stunned gourmands with his herbal essences, vegetable sauces, and gossamer desserts. Regardless of how many other ventures Vongerichten launches, JoJo still maintains his stance and his quality."
- Hal Rubenstein, New York

In 1986 Chef Vongerichten arrived in New York and immediately did the 4-Star (New York Times) routine at Lafayette. He was quickly off and running, and in 1991 he opened the French bistro-style JoJo and he has never looked back. Prior to New York, he did some great things in Bangkok, and the Asian influence would always be part of his cooking. He did the French haute cuisine at JoJo's and the Asian flavors became part of the presentation. After all these years, it's still a New York classic, and one has to think that it remains his absolute favorite.
