Delmonico's

As one of the first private eateries, Delmonico’s offered diners numerous luxuries like private rooms and a plethora of American cuisine options. Some recipes they even claim to have invented, such as baked Alaska, eggs Benedict and lobster Newburg. Likewise, the signature “Delmonico steak” is first-rate---twenty ounces of wet aged Prime boneless rib-eye. Other choice menu items include the potato-crusted striped bass with black truffle sauce as well as an appetizer of duck confit and sweet potato ravioli with sautéed rainbow chard and creamy rosemary duck jus. Wood paneled walls and candlelit tables recall a bygone era but packed crowds of financiers prove that history is indeed alive and well. - Gayot
